My take on The 8 Limbs of Yoga Pranayama can be u My take on The 8 Limbs of Yoga  Pranayama can be understood as either ‘prana-yama’ which would mean ‘breath – control’ or it could be ‘prana-ayama’ which would translate to ‘freedom of breath’.  So these two things 'control' and freedom' do seem like total opposites but bear with me.  In yoga we use techniques of breath to energise or to relax, to clear the mind or focus it.  The control offers us a freedom from whatever state we might be in.  If we are feeling overwhelmed then pranayama can bring us to a state of peace where we feel the freedom to think again.
